2016 Sewing Goals

So far this year I have three quilts planned to make: 1) Pat Sloan 2016 Quilt Along http://blog.patsloan.com/2015/11/pat-sloan-its-time-my-free-2016-mystery-supply-list-is-ready.html ) Pat Sloan Splendia Quilt Sampler  http://www.thesplendidsampler.com/ and 3) Memory Quilt for Gere from his Dad's shirts http://quiltville.blogspot.com/2005/06/scrappy-mountain-majesties.html?m=1 .

In additions I have the following UFOs that are planned for completion: 1) My Stars 2015 BOM from Bluebird Quilt Shop - finish pricing 2) Bonnie Hunter's 2014 Mystery Quilt top needs to be quilted and 3) 2015 Mystery Quilt from Quilters Cottage Retreat - finish piecing.

Other UFO include my blue and white split rail fence, the bird quilt, my sampler quilt to honor my grandmother, First Ladies quilt, my first attempt at a modern quilt.

I probably have more UFO that I have not listed. As things are finished and posted, new UFO will be added.

Planning for quilt run

My quilting friends and I are going to San Diego County this weekend for a Crusin  Quilter's quilt run at http://www.cruisinquilters.com/html/default.asp.

I love San Diego County. It is so pretty to ride through and I always enjoy looking at the building architecture and the country side. We will visit 13 quilt shops, from urban environment to rural countryside. I am getting excited. Prizes are awarded to those that complete the run.  Maybe one of us will get lucky and win. Winning is so exciting.

I need to look for fabric for David Knutson memory quilt as well as backing fabric for my Grand Illusion Mystery Quilt. See block below.

I think this is a super busy block and once the top is assembled I not sure I want a wild backing fabric. I am hoping Rosie's has a good selection of backing fabric. I was not able to find an estimated size in the instructions for this quilt. I will have to guess size of finished quilt or let the backing go until another time.

I also need to look for a pantograph with flowers on it similar to the flowers in my granddaughters christening gown shown below.

Bless her heart, she does not look happy. Her Mom wants me to make her christening blanket out of white minky and satin. I have the fabric now I need to get it quilted.

I am not going to have the wedding quilt completed enough for backing fabric. I thought I was ready to assemble blocks and then I realized I needed to make another 300 half square triangles.

I am thinking I have too much purple in this wedding quilt so I will try to pick up some blue fat quarters this weekend so I can tone it down a bit.

Sewing goal 2015

My sewing goal for this year is to get my Etsy Store up and running. With this as my main goal, I also am working on two new monthly quilt alongs: Pat Sloan Vacation Quilt Along at  http://blog.patsloan.com/2014/12/pat-sloan-2015-free-mystery-bom-vacation-time-jan-block.html and Quiltmaker Bitty Blocks Quilt Along at 

http://www.quiltmaker.com/blogs/quiltypleasures/2015/01/qms-bitty-blocks-adorable-small-designs/ . I have this blocks cut out, but have not had a chance to sew them so pictures will have to wait till my next post.

Finally, I am working to be productive by not sewing on a scrap to start, but use a defined simple project that I can work in between my main project and build blocks almost as an after thought. I have already started doing this with left over  polka dots. This star block was built a simple piece at a time at the beginning, between, and at the end of my regular project. I leave my needle resting on one of these scrap pieces. At the end of my sewing session I have several of the pieces made, if not an entire block.

These bitty baskets are just so cute. I have have made 16 so far.

Slow and steady

All the clues have been posted and I have worked slow and steady on Bonnie Hunter's mystery quilt along, Grand Illusion, at http://quiltville.blogspot.com/p/grand-illusion-mystery.html?m=0. I hoped to have it finished by now, but I am still assembling. I have all the blocks made. The blocks take a bit of getting use too. There really is a lot of pink.

Currently, I am working on sashing blocks. The pattern called for a pieced sashing. I am going to make number of blocks stated, but I am not sure I will use them. Below are a few stacks of the sashing blocks.

I have several more to make. I think the green is very loud, but I will lay them out and take another photo to help me decide.

Our youngest daughter has moved out. Her room is painted pink. I am thinking i will use this mystery quilt in her room. Using the two  together the room and the quilt, should make both of them bearable. Pink is not really a color that I like. I have a lot of other house projects in progress and will not get around to reprinting her room until late in the year or early next year. Besides, our youngest is flighty, she might move back home. With her, anything is possible.

Christmas rush

Clue 2 and clue 3 have been posted and I have not done a thing. Bonnie Hunter has posted a myster quilt along, Grand Illusion, at http://quiltville.blogspot.com/p/grand-illusion-mystery.html?m=0. I hoped to participate in the mystery. I completed clue 1 and I have been cutting and drawing lines on clue 2, but that is about all I have got finished.

I have some of clue 2 cut. I am holding on cutting the neutral pieces. I decided I wanted crisp white to off sit the black so I ordered some new fabric last week. I have yet to start cutting clue 3.

Meanwhile, I have been busy working on my granddaughters doll beds for Christmas. I have four granddaughters ages: 12, 7, and 6 months. The two new granddaughters, Emily and Sophia, are starting to watch Minnie Mouse on Disney channel so I thought I would make a bed for them to use with Minnie Mouse. I made the beds red and white. Amy is seven so her doll bed will go with a frozen doll and I made her bed pink and white. Below are the three doll beds. 

Each bed has a fitted and flat sheet. The doll quilt has matching pillow case and dust ruffle. 

Autumn is twelve and a preteen. She doesn't play with dolls anymore. I am working another gift for her that is more age appropriate.

A little sunshine

I had an outpatient procedure today and have been taking it easy since I got home. I made some doll beds for my granddaughters for Christmas gifts and I spent this afternoon working on the binding for each bed.

I used my new light to help me see for the close handwork; however, my little dog keeps hoping into my lap.

It is so cute, Wee, thinks he is sitting in the sunshine.

I hope you have swift and sure needle so you can finish you gifts for Christmas. I am almost done with my hand made thing.
